We’re incredibly close to the iPhone 17 release date, which we now know will be on September 19th – as confirmed by Apple. This goes for the entire iPhone 17 series range, as well as the newly introduced iPhone Air. Apple’s September event happened on the 9th, and all the details you need to know have been officially announced.

Apple’s latest generation of smartphones has also been joined by new Apple Watches and some new AirPods. But let’s focus on the new iPhones, which will be available for pre-order on the 12th. You can check out pre-orders for the iPhone 17, Pro, and Pro Max right now, or pre-orders for the iPhone Air if you’re more interested in Apple’s slimmest iPhone to date.

iPhone 17, Pro & Pro Max release date

Now that yearly iPhone releases have been happening for the best part of two decades, Apple’s release schedule has become pretty robust. And it’s no different this year. This is how the iPhone 17 series schedule looks for its announcement, launch, and full release to the public:

  • Launch event on September 9
  • Pre-orders on Friday, September 12
  • Release date (wide availability) on Friday, September 19

So, that’s how it goes for the iPhone 17 series. Rumor has it that big changes are coming next year, like the possibility of Apple skipping the standard iPhone 18 to release a foldable iPhone instead. However, this year’s generation follows the usual pattern.

iPhone 17, Pro & Pro Max price

Despite fears of a price rise of $50-100 in the base model of the iPhone, this did not occur. In fact, considering the cheapest iPhone 16 that was priced at $799 only came with 128GB of storage on release, the new model is actually kind of cheaper. The biggest surprise was the inclusion of a 2TB option for the iPhone 17 Pro Max for a whopping $1,999! For an extra $400 over the 1TB version, you’d have to be mad (or pretty rich) to go for this one.

When was the iPhone 17 series announced?

Apple had its new iPhone launch event on Tuesday, September 9. CEO Tim Cook urged fans to “Get ready for an awe dropping” event. Like usual (almost always), the latest iPhone series will be released in September. The event revealed the new line-up, including the all-new iPhone Air. You can check out the full presentation on Apple’s website or via the YouTube VOD below.

Are there iPhone 17 benchmarks?

Aside from Apple’s official claims, we’ve had our first look at the iPhone 17 series benchmarks when compared to last gen, thanks to early tests showing up on Geekbench. These are for the iPhone 17 Pro in particular. According to those results, the A19 Pro chip in the new series is around 15% faster in CPU single-core and 22% faster in multi-core. As for the graphics performance, a Metal benchmark reveals an impressive 35% uplift compared to the 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max from last gen.
