It has been less than a year since Apple released the M4 MacBook Pro, and we could soon be seeing a new generation powered by the M5 chip. Apple’s Greg Joswiak has teased the device on social media in a short clip, noting that “something powerful is coming”. Everything seems to point towards a new MacBook Pro, given that the M4 Air models were released earlier this year.

Apple has yet to reveal its new M5 chip, but it’s set to power the tech giant’s next generation of hardware. This includes the rumored Vision Pro 2, which had a mention of the M5 chip in some leaked code. However, before we get to that, it seems likely that MacBooks are the first to get the processor upgrade.

Greg Joswiak teases the new M5 MacBook

Following Joswiak’s post, well-known Apple analyst Mark Gurman says he expects the new model to be the M5 MacBook Pro, which doesn’t really come as a surprise. The analyst revealed late last week in his Power On newsletter on Bloomberg that Apple is expected to announce a new MacBook Pro this week.

A couple of weeks ago, Russian YouTuber Wylsacom also unboxed an iPad Pro M5 on his channel, so expectations of an M5 launch have been brewing for a little while now. The YouTuber also took the time to do some early benchmarks, comparing it with the 2024 iPad Pro (iPad Pro 13), which is powered by the M4 chip.

However, the official post from Joswiak doesn’t go beyond teasing the new MacBook, so we can likely expect that to be the first thing Apple announces as it gears up for an M5 chip launch. As far as other foldable tech goes, we’re still waiting for something official on the first foldable iPhone, which was reportedly reached the production phase just a couple of weeks ago.
