Vision Pro 2 teased in Apple code leak, points towards new M5 chip for the next-gen headset

The next generation of the Apple Vision Pro is yet to be announced, but a new clue has surfaced in the form of some code accidentally shared by Apple. According to the leak, the next Vision Pro will use the M5 chip – the existing headset is fitted with M2 and R1 chips, the latter is dedicated to processing input from cameras, sensors, and microphones.
Apple Vision Pro 2 rumors have been circulating for a while. Earlier this year, reports of mass production in China led us to believe the Vision Pro 2 would arrive much earlier than expected. However, there has been no official word from Apple yet – not even at WWDC 2025, although the original did receive some new features in visionOS 26.
The next Apple Vision Pro will be powered by an M5 chip, says leak
This report comes from MacRumors; frequent contributor Aaron Perris discovered the code. The exact code hasn’t been shared, so we’ll have to take this information with a grain of salt for now, but it’s an interesting development nonetheless.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, one of the leading insiders when it comes to Apple, previously claimed it would use the M4 chip that features in the latest MacBook Air and iPad Pro. The M4 iPad Pro launched last year as Apple’s thinnest-ever product, while the M4 MacBook Air launched in March this year. However, considering we’re soon moving up to M5, expected this Fall, the next-generation mixed reality headset may instead feature the newest Apple silicon processor.

There’s still much to learn about the next Vision Pro. We’ve heard rumors of Apple working on two new versions of it, one being a high-end model (now assumedly using the M5 chip), and another being a lighter version with a more affordable price tag, just like Apple’s existing Pro/Air model for MacBooks. The original’s eye-watering $3,500 price tag quickly became a talking point, so it makes sense for Apple to offer something a little more ‘budget-friendly’.
