Back in April this year (just after April Fools), ASUS teased the ROG Mjolnir and mentioned that more will be revealed about the product during Computex 2024. The company stayed true to its promise, as it has finally unveiled the device everyone was hyped about. And the Mjolnir isn’t just a backup battery; it’s a portable power station designed to assist you both indoors and outdoors.
Introducing the ASUS ROG Mjolnir
The Mjolnir’s name and design are based on Thor’s mighty hammer from Norse mythology. It seems like the portable UPS is mighty as well, as it comes with a 768Wh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery, which offers safety and an extended lifespan. ASUS claims that it can provide enough juice to run a high-end system with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 graphics card for about an hour. However, the company hasn’t clarified if they mean a laptop or PC with an RTX 4080.
Still, if you’re in the middle of something important and there’s a sudden power outage, you can easily save your progress and shut down your computer thanks to the backup battery. This is also supported by the 10ms switchover time, which ensures your system seamlessly transitions over to battery power if a power outage occurs.
The Mjolnir is a versatile device. It boasts four AC outlets and a variety of USB ports, including a 100W USB-C port for fast-charging laptops and other devices. There’s even a Qi 2.0 wireless charging pad with MagSafe compatibility for your smartphone. The fun does not stop here, as the handle of the Mjolnir can be detached from the UPS and you can use it as a flashlight.
On the front, we also have an LCD screen, which lets you know how much battery is left and the real-time power draw. Another interesting feature of the Mjolnir is that it supports solar power recharging. This is a great option for those who will be using the portable UPS on the go.
When will it be released?
At the moment, ASUS has not revealed the price and release date of the ROG Mjolnir. However, judging from the specifications, this portable UPS isn’t going to be cheap. As for the release date, ASUS has currently listed it as ‘coming soon’. But ASUS representatives at Computex told Android Authority that the ROG Mjolnir is expected to launch in early 2025.
