Microsoft previously hinted that an Xbox handheld was in the works, and now the cat might be out of the bag thanks to a teaser posted on ASUS ROG on Twitter/X that seems to suggest the Xbox handheld will be ASUS ROG-branded.

Though Microsoft has revealed some small hints on what can be expected from an Xbox handheld, much about the device still remains unknown. If the teaser video from ASUS ROG is any indication, however, it will be an extension of the ASUS ROG Ally handheld series.

A new ROG Ally or Xbox handheld has been teased

The teaser video shows the ASUS ROG mascot rabbit-like robot character, who is tapping intently at a computer. A blueprint appears showing an upgraded version of our robot rabbit friend, with arrows highlighting three major upgrades:

  • Marathon stamina
  • More capacity
  • Faster speeds

The robot then dashes to a capsule and does a number of Super Sentai poses as the doors close. Then, in a tribute to David Cronenberg's ‘The Fly', an Xbox controller and a ROG Ally handheld end up in the capsule with him. Lights flash and smoke billows before revealing the robot rabbit, now transformed into a new handheld device.

The handheld is still mostly shrouded in darkness, but appears to show a slightly larger display screen, as well as two asymmetrical analog sticks lit by pink LEDs. The teaser is accompanied by the hashtags ‘PlayALLYourGames and NextLevel Gaming.

Curiously, the official Xbox Twitter account posted a reply showing the classic Meme image of the monkey puppet giving the side-eye. The post was made on March 31, 2025. Just under two years since the official announcement of the original ASUS ROG Ally. Similar to the original ROG Ally, the timing of the reveal raised some eyebrows, with many users asking if it was real or an April Fool's gag.

The full truth won't be known until ASUS ROG and Microsoft officially unveil the new product.
