Rebellion’s ambitious open-world survival game, Atomfall, is all set to arrive on PC in just two days (March 27); people who bought the Deluxe Edition have been able to play since the 24th. We had lead designer Ben Fisher talk to us about the team’s focus on creating a world jam-packed with intricacies. Since the game puts such a strong emphasis on making every detail matter, you’d assume that running it, even on a high-end rig, would be a chore, something gamers have recently experienced with titles like Monster Hunter Wilds.

However, it seems that as much as the team has focused on ensuring every detail contributes to the overall story, they have also made sure you get to experience all of it in the best visual quality possible without compromising on performance. While the game has yet to launch, Atomfall reviews and benchmarks are available online, and the results may surprise you.

Experience Atomfall’s open world at 8K 60FPS

This benchmark comes from DSOGaming and was uploaded to YouTube, showcasing a three-minute-long free-roam open world scene at the absolute maximum settings. With the resolution set to 8K and graphics quality on Ultra, Atomfall managed to provide a stable 60 FPS experience, with only minimal drops to 58–57 FPS during some scenes.

The game was running on Nvidia’s latest flagship, the RTX 5090, without the help of DLSS or FSR. This isn’t the only GPU DSOGaming has put to the test. Whether at 1080p or 1440p, the game seems to run smoothly on a wide range of GPUs, including the 2080 Ti, 6900 XT, and more.

Optimization done right

Judging from its smooth 8K performance, it’s safe to say that upon launch, Atomfall is shaping up to be one of the most optimized PC games of 2025. Despite being GPU-intensive, the game runs flawlessly on a wide range of GPUs while maintaining its stunning visuals. Plus, it’s not like 8K will be mainstream any time soon.

However, according to DSOGaming's testing, the game does suffer from noticeable shimmering issues, something we also noticed in this benchmark scene. There are also some visual inconsistencies, as certain areas may appear flat or lower quality compared to others.

On top of that, the game does not support Nvidia’s latest DLSS 4 technology or AMD’s FSR 4, both of which could have helped mitigate shimmering issues. We've seen a modded FSR 4 handle shimmering issue like this in Silent Hill 2. That said, the developers seem to have nailed the detailed open world of Atomfall, and perhaps in the future, we might see support for these features added.

Atomfall is set to release on March 27 on Xbox, PS5, and PC – pre-orders are available now on platforms including Steam and Epic Games. Users who buy the Deluxe Edition already have access to the game as of March 24.
