Baldur’s Gate 3 is still going strong since its original full release last year, and why wouldn’t it be? It enjoys a healthy player base with plenty of content and many PC players choose to extend the game’s lifespan by playing around with mods. We’ve already covered the BG3 darts mod fairly recently, so we decided it’s a nice time to browse through some more recent fan-made creations.
One mod that drew our attention is the Equipment Failure mod. It’s not as unfair as it sounds, and not nearly as hectic as the recent Fallout London dice roll mod, but it is something that will change your regular playthrough as a result of breakable weaponry. No longer will your loot forever be in fighting condition.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Equipment Failure mod is now available
We found this recently released mod for Baldur’s Gate 3 over on Nexus Mods, and we think it’s a fantastic addition if you want to add some spice. The Equipment Failure mod essentially means that your equipment is destroyable – so rather than lasting forever, you’re always happy to scavenge. As the mod’s creator, Isdariel, puts it, “Ever disappointed to find cool loot, but your current items are already better?” This makes looting always relevant and saves you from eventually side-grading at best.
The mod page lists the features, as well as the installation process. Isdariel also recommends pairing it with the Randomized Equipment Loot mod if you feel like enjoying a much more varied playthrough. Anyway, here are the features:
- Equipped items can break when exposed to stress such as being hit, crits, or being downed
- Rare items last longer than rubble, but everything has a chance of breaking; there is no durability system
- Heavy Armor will last longer than other loot
- You can fully configure the mod’s settings (see below)
You can customize the variables to your liking
One of the great things about this mod is that you can edit the chance of equipment damage to your liking. For conditions such as: on hit, on crit, downed, killed, and fleeing, you can set a percentage from 0-100% to determine the probability. This means you have control of how you want the gameplay to feel, whether you want to consistently scavenge for more loot or make it more of a minor gameplay feature.
