Exactly a month ago, Nintendo announced the Ocarina of Time remake release date during a special 40th Anniversary Legend of Zelda Nintendo Direct. The much-anticipated remake of the N64 classic is coming on November 5 as one of the few notable titles to release next month (most other publishers have been scared off by GTA 6). And now, we’ve learned that Best Buy is celebrating the occasion with an in-store midnight release.

These days, physical midnight launches feel like a thing of the past, so it’s nice to see Best Buy offering the option to dedicated fans. The industry is much more digital-focused, especially with Sony choosing to ditch physical discs altogether. Console games do still frequently unlock at midnight local time, albeit digitally, and while Nintendo continues to ship physical cartridges, they come with a price premium; The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is $59.99 for a digital copy, but $69.99 for a physical one.

Best Buy is holding a midnight launch event for Ocarina of Time

The popular US retailer is now notifying pre-order customers of an upcoming “late-night launch event” that begins as soon as it crosses over to Thursday, November 5, Eastern Time. “Most” stores will be participating – a full list can be found on Best Buy. The late-night store openings will also have a limited number of 40th anniversary Nintendo Switch 2 and Pro Controllers available.

According to a statement from Best Buy, via 9to5Toys, “nearly all U.S. stores will open Nov. 5 at midnight ET – that means 11 p.m. CT, 10 p.m. MT and 9 p.m. PT on Nov. 4.” As such, it’s not a midnight release for every single region in the United States, but it will be for those on the East Coast. Customers can pre-order their physical copy and select store pickup to grab it as soon as possible.
