Nintendo reveals Ocarina of Time remake release date, and it’s not remotely scared of launching near GTA 6

Nintendo held its 40th Anniversary Legend of Zelda Direct today, packing in about 40 minutes of announcements for fans to enjoy. It was all building up to the most anticipated reveal of the day: the Ocarina of Time remake. To celebrate the series’ 40th anniversary, Nintendo has remade the N64 classic (which launched back in 1998) and given it a modern overhaul.
While many game developers and publishers have vacated November due to the GTA 6 release date, Nintendo isn’t fussed. After all, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time will be a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive, while Grand Theft Auto VI will only be available on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S at launch – not to mention vastly different target audiences.
The OoT remake launches November 5, a couple of weeks ahead of GTA 6 on the 19th. It’s built from the ground up and not a simple remaster of the original. Either way, it stays faithful to the original in many ways despite a large amount of modernization – Nintendo points out it will still feature loading screens, rather than the open-world style seen in Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom.

The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time trailer
Some modernizations shown during the Nintendo Direct include things gamers take for granted these days. The ability to jump on command at the press of a button, free camera movement, motion controls for aiming, dashing (initiated from a roll), an objective tracker named the ‘Threads of Time,’ and many more.
Nintendo has also introduced more interactivity to playing the ocarina in-game, allowing players to hum into their Switch 2 microphone to replicate a tune. It will also sell a special ocarina accessory if you’re hoping for an even more immersive method. The much-anticipated Ocarina of Time remake looks great, and it’s nice to see another major game launch penciled in for November.
