The Legend of Zelda is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, and Nintendo has prepared a special Direct presentation for the occasion. The event is happening today, September 8, so fans won’t have to wait much longer to see what Nintendo has planned for one of its biggest franchises. We explain when and where to tune in, as well as what to expect from the presentation.

What to expect from The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct

Nintendo has confirmed that the Direct will run for around 30 minutes. The company hasn’t provided a complete breakdown of what will be shown, only saying that viewers can expect a variety of information related to The Legend of Zelda. Still, there are several things fans will be keeping an eye out for.

One of the biggest is The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake. The game is planned for Nintendo Switch 2 and is expected to arrive sometime in 2026. As Nintendo has stayed quiet about it for some time, the Direct would be a good opportunity for the company to show more gameplay and, potentially, reveal an exact release date.

The upcoming live-action The Legend of Zelda movie could also make an appearance. The film is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on April 30, 2027, so Nintendo could use the presentation to reveal more information about the project.

There have also been reports and rumors surrounding special Zelda hardware. This includes a Zelda-themed Nintendo Switch 2, Joy-Con 2 controllers, and a matching Switch 2 Pro Controller. Given that this presentation is specifically celebrating the franchise’s 40th anniversary, limited-edition hardware would not be too surprising. However, this is just speculation for now.
