Rumors of an RTX 5080 with 24GB VRAM have been circulating online lately, supposedly arriving as a pseudo-replacement for the 32GB RTX 5090, following end-of-life speculation. Nvidia has already denied all the 5090 discontinuation rumors, but that hasn’t stopped the price of the 16GB RTX 5080 from experiencing a sudden jump in China, according to respected leaker ChannelGate.

New information from the region says the existing RTX 5080 model, fitted with 16GB of GDDR7 video memory, has “seen a significant increase” [translated]. Typically priced between 12,700-13,500 yuan (from ~$1,900 USD), which is already well over its $999 MSRP launch price, the RTX 5080 is now said to cost between 14,500-15,000 yuan (up to ~$2,245 USD) at wholesale prices.

In addition to the RTX 5080 price hikes, wholesale pricing for the RTX 5070 Ti has also risen, albeit by a less significant amount. The graphics card is a tier below, but still boasts 16GB of GDDR7. With the rumored RTX 5080 coming with 24GB VRAM, potentially as a direct replacement, its launch price isn’t going to be cheap. However, still miles cheaper than the RTX 5090 lately.

On the regular consumer side of things, ChannelGate highlights ASUS and Gigabyte as two brands leading the charge, with prices jumping as much as 1,000 yuan for the 5080 and 200 yuan for the 5070 Ti. Other 16GB and 12GB models such as the RTX 5060 Ti and RTX 5070, respectively, are also up 200 yuan. They also detail smaller 100 yuan increases for 8GB RTX 5060 & 5060 Ti models. ChannelGate also details around 100-350 yuan hikes for AMD GPUs.

Material costs continue to rise amid shortages, particularly memory, hence why high-end models are hit the hardest. We’ve seen the flagship 32GB RTX 5090 climb close to $9,000 lately, or even five figures if overseas shipping is involved. As for the RTX 5080, popular US retailers such as Newegg have kept some models below $2,000, but it’s difficult to say just how long this will last.
