iPhone Duo launches today, “we have them available at stores” says Apple exec, as production target jumps 44%

Following its big reveal in September, Apple’s first foldable iPhone launches today. Customers have been able to pre-order the iPhone Duo since October 16, but October 23 marks the actual availability date. Or at least, this is the earliest fans can expect to get one. Stock levels have suffered due to high demand, and Apple is reportedly expanding its 12-month production target by a whopping 44%.
We’ve already seen pre-order customers report that their iPhone Duo delivery date has moved forward, up from December or January to mid-to-late November in the United States. So there’s still a notable wait time. Previous reports from Apple employees indicate limited stock available in-store, so you can’t fully expect to walk into your local Apple Store and pick one up right away.
However, at the same time, Apple’s SVP of Marketing, Greg Joswiak, recently spoke to TechRadar regarding the iPhone Duo launch. “You know, we didn’t ship them all away during the pre-order; we have them available at the stores, we’re excited,” he claims. Joswiak will be in attendance at Apple’s iconic Fifth Avenue store in New York City when the phone launches today.

iPhone Duo 12-month target reportedly expanded to 14 million units
According to Taiwan-based publication DigiTimes, Apple has raised its 12-month shipment target for the iPhone Duo by 44% following strong pre-order results. This reportedly takes the target from 9.7 million to 14 million units. Starting at $1,999, the iPhone Duo is far from a budget-friendly device, but that seemingly hasn’t stopped fans from scrambling to get one at launch.
Apple has publicly celebrated the success of the new foldable device so far. In a statement shared with CNBC, Apple says pre-order demand for the iPhone Duo is “nothing short of extraordinary,” adding that “we are working hard to get this revolutionary new product into customers’ hands as quickly as possible”.
