Nvidia recently hosted an RTX Remix mod contest with $50K of prize money, which it kicked off at Computex a few months ago. And now the time has come to announce the winners, just as we reach Gamescom 2025 – happening this week. There are a bunch of winners, but one that caught our eye was the Community Choice Award for Call of Duty 2 Remixed.

Call of Duty 2, in its day, was one of the most popular FPS games. Its online multiplayer proved to be a hit with PC gamers, and even to this day, you can find matches running on community-hosted servers. There have been way too many COD games to keep track of since then; this RTX Remix mod breathes new life into one of the game’s most popular maps, Carentan.

The RTX Remix mod contest has proven to be a success, with several winners to celebrate. Painkiller RTX Remixed was the biggest winner, sweeping three categories for the lion’s share of cash. Taking home a $10,000 prize (and 6 months of GFN Ultimate) with the Community Choice Award is Call of Duty 2 Remixed, produced by a single developer by the name of tadpole3159, who is described as “a lead artist at an acclaimed British game development studio”.

For those who don’t know, RTX Remix is Nvidia’s modding platform for remastering classic DirectX 8 and 9 games with ray tracing/path tracing, support for DLSS & frame generation, and other RTX features. This Call of Duty 2 mod is publicly available to download, with V2 being the latest version at the time of writing. You can find it on ModDB, and there’s 5.5GB of content to download – that’s a couple of gigabytes more than vanilla Call of Duty 2 in its entirety.

The remaster of Carentan overhauls the scenery, introduces a full day-night cycle with dynamic lighting, and even has six preset weather conditions that you can change at the press of a button in the middle of a match. tadpole3159 isn’t stopping at Carentan either, as they plan to single-handedly remaster Call of Duty 2’s multiplayer mode with revamped visuals.

Thanks to RTX Remix, tadpole3159 was able to add all of these elements into the game without compromising on their geometric detail, or their 8K resolution textures.”

Nvidia has made a few big announcements to start the week, including a massive upgrade to GeForce Now; the “Biggest upgrade for GFN ever in the past 10 years,” according to Nvidia. This includes the shift from RTX 4080 to RTX 5080 hardware and a new feature to help double Steam game library support.
