Cyberpunk 2077 releases on Mac this week, but only for certain models

Cyberpunk 2077 originally released at the tail end of 2020, but it took some time to iron out its many problems at launch. These days, it’s lauded as one of the best video games of the past decade, and now, it’s finally coming to Mac. It has long been rumored that the game would be getting a macOS port, and benchmarks that surfaced online last month showed it running at 120 FPS with ultra settings on an M4 Max MacBook.
CD Projekt RED has announced that Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition will be available for on July 17th, 2025. The ultimate edition includes the base game as well as the Phantom Liberty expansion. Be warned, though, there’s a minimum requirement – the game will only run on Apple silicon Mac models with 16GB of RAM or more.
Cyberpunk 2077 is only available on newer Mac models
In short, you’ll need a Mac device that is running one of Apple’s M-series chips and has at least 16GB memory. According to Apple’s website, the list of Mac computers with Apple silicon is as follows:
- MacBook Pro introduced in 2021 or later, plus MacBook Pro (13-inch, M1, 2020)
- MacBook Air introduced in 2022 or later, plus MacBook Air (M1, 2020)
- iMac introduced in 2021 or later
- Mac mini introduced in 2020 or later
- Mac Studio introduced in 2022 or later
- Mac Pro introduced in 2023

The transition to Apple silicon started in November 2020, just before Cyberpunk 2077 was released, and now every Mac product uses Apple’s own silicon chips based on ARM architecture, as the company decided to move away from Intel’s traditional x86-64 processors. The full transition was complete in June 2023 with the release of the silicon Mac Pro M2 Ultra.
We’ll have to wait and see just how well Cyberpunk 2077 can perform on some of the lower-spec models that meet the system requirements. Some silicon models use 8GB of RAM, so those are out of the question. Apple was still fitting some laptop variants with just 8GB as recently as the 2023 MacBook Air M3, though 16GB finally became the new baseline on the M4 models.
