Ghost Ship Games, the developers of co-op FPS game Deep Rock Galactic, have just released a hotfix to deal with an issue with mods that has been affecting the popular mining game. The 2020 title (which first entered early access in 2018) has a pretty active modding community, with more than 4,000 mods available via mod.io.

Hotfix S05.10.2 was pushed early this morning to address the issue that caused some mods to be disabled when reloading the game. The hotfix simply forces them to be enabled – the devs say they have “hopefully fixed the issue”. A new refresh button has also been added.

We have hopefully fixed the issue where mods would be disabled after reloading the game. In addition we also added a Refresh button to the modding menu, that should help resolve various issues when there are issues connecting between the game and mod.io.

Patch notes

• Fixes issues where some had mods disable when reloading the game, forcing them to enable their mods everytime they started the game.

KNOWN ISSUE: When refreshing on the modding menu, it will say mods have been disabled due to a crash. This is just an UI issue with the prompt, as mods are still loaded.

Modding has been one of the best things about PC gaming for a long time, and even console gamers can enjoy this kind of customization in some games. Sadly, Deep Rock Galactic is not one of them. Using the mod.io platform could potentially mean it’s possible in the future, though an update from last year revealed that the devs “have no plans” at the moment.

Games such as Baldur’s Gate 3 and Oblivion Remastered have been a hive for modding recently. We’ve seen a BG3 mod bring back cut content and even a controversial AI-generated mod for the Oblivion remake. Some titles, though, like Stalker 2, continue to warn against using mods due to potential performance issues. So, it’s nice to see DRG get some more love for mods.
