Devs behind biggest Baldur’s Gate 3 mod ready to ramp up marketing after completing “first working build”
Table of Contents
Baldur’s Gate 3 fans should be looking forward to Path to Menzoberranzan, an upcoming fan-made expansion mod. It promises to be the biggest custom campaign yet for the game, as it will add an entirely new standalone adventure separate from the events of the Absolute War. On the marketing front, the devs say that their PR team is “planning some exciting new content to share” in more ways than we’ve seen so far.
Players will be able to enjoy a new story, filled with new characters, events, and weapons. And if you’re someone who has been following this mod ever since it was first announced, you’ll be excited to know that its developers have shared yet another new progress update.
New progress update for Path to Menzoberranzan mod
In a message posted on their official Discord channel, the team said that they have now reached their first working build. This means they have completed the first playable version of the mod’s starting area. It includes combat, story events, companions, and dialogues. It’s not ready for public use yet, but it’s an important step toward the future demo. This early version gives the team something solid to build on as they continue adding more content.
The update also mentions that the developers are working on adding original music and special features to make the campaign feel even more unique. They are researching ways to include custom soundtracks and other features that can improve the overall experience for players.
We always want to hear (and especially see) more about the project, so it’s great news that marketing and progress reports are set to become more commonplace, with “new types of videos to better showcase our progress, visuals, and behind-the-scenes efforts”.

More to come
Our PR team is planning some exciting new content to share both here and on our social media — there’s a lot to show you. We’re also working on new types of videos to better showcase our progress, visuals, and behind-the-scenes efforts.
Thank you for your continued support and stay tuned!
Lotrich, Project Director for Path to Menzoberranzan

Visual work is also moving forward. The team says the 3D models for the companion characters are looking better than ever, and new armor designs are also being added. Overall, the update shows that Path to Menzoberranzan is coming together nicely. Even though the full release may still be far off, the steady progress and detailed updates give fans a lot to look forward to.
The developers have also invited fans to take part in the mod at different stages. For example, they held voice auditions for characters that will appear in the mod, and later asked to help design a ‘community-made’ NPC. The team also mentioned that they would love to bring the mod to consoles, but that it’s unlikely to happen.
At the moment, no release date has been provided for Path to Menzoberranzan. However, its developers have confirmed that the first playable beta with Act 1 locations and story only is expected to be available by mid-2025 (though we should probably expect later on in the year at this point). The full release, however, will depend on the beta feedback and is “likely years away.”
