A few months back, the developers behind the ambitious Baldur’s Gate 3 mod Path to Menzoberranzan said they were “kicking back into high gear,” while promising to show off more progress. Well, there hasn’t been too much to get excited about just yet (besides a few Patreon posts), but it seems development has progressed nicely behind the scenes.

Last time we checked in, a tutorial level was in the works. And now, the latest update reveals 2026 is going great so far – and the team is recruiting across the board. It was this time last year when the devs were giving people the chance to audition for a voice role in the BG3 mod, which promises to be the biggest yet, following the release of official mod tools in 2024.

It should be noted, as a passion project, that the team behind Path to Menzoberranzan is made up of dedicated volunteers, which helps explain the need for steady recruitment across many departments. Anyone interested in the project can apply for a role on the official Discord server. It has previously been stated that the team is 130 people strong, though it’s unclear how much this number shifts, given the nature of the project.

Path to Menzoberranzan is set 100 years after Baldur’s Gate 2 and follows a new party, separate from the events of the Absolute War, focused on Athkatla and the Underdark, “far from Baldur’s Gate and the tale that we already know”. The mod is expected to enter an early access stage in the first half of this year. This includes a playable alpha “similar in scope to the Nautiloid of BG3,” though the release of the full mod remains “years away”.
