Don’t update to the latest ROG Ally graphics driver if you’re playing The Last of Us Part 2, users warn

Just yesterday, AMD Graphics Driver V32.0.13031.9000 began rolling out to ROG Ally devices, with the standout feature in the patch notes being support for AFMF 2.1. Frame generation and upscaling have been a game changer for portable devices, and while AFMF 2.1 officially launched back in early March alongside the RX 9070 series GPUs, users on the ASUS ROG Ally and Ally X weren’t able to benefit from the improved version until now.
However, it turns out the update isn’t exactly as game-changing as handheld owners hoped. Instead, for several users, it has proven to be game-breaking as titles like The Last of Us Part II are facing major issues after installing the update.
The Last of Us Part II is the only game reportedly affected so far
According to Reddit user and YouTuber Pete Talks Tech, using AFMF 2.1 while playing The Last of Us Part II is causing crashes for some users, either on load or immediately upon launch. This is especially concerning since the update is labeled as a “Recommended” driver update. So, for anyone currently playing The Last of Us Part II, it may be worth holding off on the update until ASUS addresses the issue.
Before the driver update, ROG Ally users reported smooth gameplay on The Last of Us Part II, with good graphics settings and respectable frame rates. While AMD and ASUS have yet to comment on the issue, Pete’s performance video shows that AFMF 2.1 is working well with other titles like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Resident Evil Village.
For now, the issue appears to be limited to The Last of Us Part II, so if that's not the title you’re playing, you might want to give the new driver update a shot. We’ll keep an eye out for any more titles affected by this graphics driver update.
