Free demo on Steam gets $1,000 prize pool for whoever can complete it the quickest

If you’re a fan of Mirror’s Edge, Doom, and speedrunning, then this is your opportunity to showcase your talent to the world. Metal Eden is a “Coming Soon” title arriving on Steam, pitched as an “adrenaline-rush sci-fi FPS” that blends elements from various games. It combines the fast-paced parkour and mobility from Mirror’s Edge and Ghostrunner, the raw gunplay from Doom, and the aesthetics and bright visuals of Cyberpunk.
As mentioned earlier, the game hasn’t been released on Steam yet, but the studio has launched a demo that lets you experience the first two missions, showcasing the high-speed action, cutting-edge cybernetic abilities, and high-mobility parkour movement. And there’s more to the Metal Eden demo.
Be in the top three and win your share of $1,000
Along with testing out Metal Eden before it launches, you also get a chance to compete in the Demo Speedrun Challenge made in partnership with Speedrun.com. The best part is that the top three players who manage to complete the demo as quickly as possible get to win a share of the $1,000 prize pool. However, the challenge is only valid until April 15th, meaning that you only have around a week to polish your skills and dominate Metal Eden.
Of course, you’ll have to send your run, along with video evidence, to the Speedrun leaderboard. You can read the full rules for the challenge here. At the time of writing, the best times are sub-18 minutes, but we’re sure this will be improved as we draw closer to deadline day. Here’s how the prizes will be split among the top three:
- 1st place: $500
- 2nd place: $300
- 3rd place: $200
Metal Eden fully launches on Steam, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 on May 6, 2025. According to the Steam description, the single-player campaign throws players into a deadly mission to rescue a group of survivors trapped in an orbital city, once meant to be humanity’s final refuge.
Similar to Ghostrunner, you control Hyper Unit Aksa, a soldier with advanced cybernetic enhancements and exceptional mobility. From wall-running and dashing to grappling, jetpacking, and vaulting over obstacles, the game looks packed with fast-paced action and chaotic fun.
