Recent reports of Xbox securing GTA 6 streaming rights in time for its November release date quickly led gamers to believe they might be able to stream the game on PC via Xbox Game Pass. However, Xbox Chief Strategy Officer Matthew Ball has now denied the rumors, confirming that it “will not be streaming exclusively” on Xbox, nor will it be available to stream on PC.

The news came from The Verge, which cited a meeting with CEO Asha Sharma to say Xbox will be doing something “no other platform holder is doing” with Grand Theft Auto VI. The big claim was exclusive game streaming rights, but it hasn’t taken long for CSO Ball to shut it down. It presumed Xbox’s Cloud Gaming service would allow streaming to PC, despite the game not natively launching on the platform.

GTA 6 comes to Xbox and PlayStation this November – not PC

It’s already well established that GTA 6 will be launching on November 19 on Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5. Rockstar Games has not announced any kind of PC version as of yet. A poll we ran on PC Guide a few months ago suggested most PC gamers are happy to wait, but that doesn’t stop Ball’s quick shutdown from being a disappointing reality check.

Despite not being exclusive, Xbox’s Chief Strategy Officer has not denied that GTA 6 will be available to stream on Xbox Cloud Gaming for its console players. If the blockbuster title won’t be part of the Xbox Game Pass library on day one, players may be able to purchase the game separately and use the “Stream Your Own Game” feature – assuming GTA 6 is supported.

The game streaming service has seen some big changes lately, most notably the introduction of new playtime limits, forcing new subscribers to 15 hours a month on Game Pass Ultimate, 10 hours on Premium, and just 5 hours for the Essential tier. Microsoft cited the growing cost of the service, and we saw a similar restriction with Nvidia’s GeForce Now 100-hour limit.
