Poll suggests most PC gamers are happy to wait for the GTA 6 PC port, rather than rush to buy a console

We’re now just a few months away from the GTA 6 release date, when it will launch on Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has admitted that it’s “not so hard” to get people to buy the upcoming blockbuster title, though a recent readers’ poll we ran on PC Guide suggests it won’t be easy to drag PC gamers over to console.
PC gamers will have to patiently wait for GTA 6 to be released, so we figured we’d ask our readers whether they’d be willing to buy a console just to play it early. Many console exclusives don’t have the pull for such a thing, but it’s safe to say that Grand Theft Auto VI is one of the biggest (if not the biggest) game launches of all time.
Buy a console just for GTA 6, or wait for the PC port to arrive?
We’ll keep the poll up and running, but at the time of writing, nearly half (48%) of respondents say they exclusively game on a PC and are happy to wait for the PC port before playing GTA 6. A further 20% say they already own a console, but will wait for the PC port before anyway. Just 7% of respondents claim they will be buying a console just to play GTA 6.
We’re still waiting for GTA 6 pre-orders to arrive, following a false alarm last month that led many people to believe they would be able to reserve their copy due to a now-apparent mistake from Best Buy. Fans soon warned of “fake” pre-orders showing up at lesser-known retailers, which were possibly trying to capitalize on all the hype.
Pre-orders for the console versions are expected to arrive alongside the game’s much-anticipated third trailer, keeping in line with Rockstar’s RDR2 and GTA V launches. There’s no concrete knowledge on when a PC port will arrive, though a leak earlier this year suggested as early as February 2027 – a much smaller release gap than we saw in the last installment.
