Grand Theft Auto VI is easily one of the most anticipated games in recent years. Ever since Rockstar Games officially revealed the game, fans have been waiting for every new detail, whether it is trailers, gameplay information, pricing, or pre-orders. Now, it looks like a major retailer may have accidentally revealed when players will finally be able to reserve their copy.
According to new reports, Best Buy may have leaked the GTA 6 pre-order date through a promotional email that was apparently sent out early to affiliate members. The leak claims that physical pre-orders for the game will begin on May 18, 2026.
You may be able to pre-order GTA 6 next week
The rumor first gained attention after content creator Frogboyx1Gaming reportedly showed the email live during a stream. The screenshot mentioned a “GTA 6 Pre Order (Physical Game)” promotion running from May 18 through May 21. Shortly after that, more users on social media, forums, and gaming communities claimed they had also received similar emails from Best Buy.

Several users on ResetEra and GTAForums also shared screenshots and posts discussing the same promotion. Some even recorded videos refreshing their inboxes to show the email was real and not simply an edited image. Because multiple people are reportedly seeing the same information, many fans now believe there could be some truth behind the leak.
Still, it is important to keep expectations in check. Neither Rockstar Games nor Best Buy has officially confirmed the pre-order date yet. Since fake leaks are extremely common for GTA 6, there is always a chance this could be incorrect or simply an internal placeholder date.
However, if the leak turns out to be real, fans may not have to wait much longer for official news. Pre-orders usually go live alongside new marketing material, so many players are now expecting Grand Theft Auto VI trailer 3 to arrive alongside them. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick did claim at the end of April that GTA 6 marketing will kick off “soon” – take that as you will. GTA 6 marketing is set to ramp up this summer, so launching pre-orders in May could be the beginning of that bigger push.
