The Battlefield 6 Open Beta is finally live for players with early access codes, and fans from all over the world are jumping in. Within just a few hours of launch, over 300,000 players have jumped in to test out EA’s latest large-scale shooter. However, not all of them can enjoy the game right now. Users report a driver error on the EA forums that’s preventing them from playing. The issue mostly affects people with AMD graphics cards, including those using the RX 580 8GB.

When trying to launch Battlefield 6, these players are greeted with a message saying that their GPU driver is outdated. Many of them already have the latest AMD drivers installed, and they still can’t play. This has led to a lot of confusion and frustration.

Temporary fix for the Radeon driver error

While EA hasn’t released an official fix yet, players have found a workaround that helps bypass the error. However, do keep in mind that this method involves editing the Windows Registry, so follow the steps carefully:

  1. In the Windows Search Bar, type Registry Editor and open it.
  2. Expand the folders in this order:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > CurrentControlSet > Control > Video
  3. Inside the Video folder, you’ll see several entries.
  4. Open each one until you find a folder with a subfolder named 0000.
  5. Click on 0000, and on the right side, look for a file called ReleaseVersion.
  6. Double-click it. First, copy the value and save it in Notepad as a backup.
  7. Now, change the start of the value to 25.10.13.1 and click OK.
  8. Close Registry Editor and try launching Battlefield 6 again.

The RX 580 is a solid card, but it’s not exactly new. It came out eight years ago, though it is still sometimes seen above newer cards in sales reports, and even the founder of Linux, Linus Torvalds, is still using one, albeit probably not for much gaming.

Battlefield 6’s minimum requirements list a newer GPU: the RX 5600 XT 6GB. So it’s possible that EA’s system checks are blocking older GPUs by default. Users with other AMD cards are also reporting the same issue. That suggests this might be a driver detection bug, not a hardware limitation.
