Users of the MSI Claw might have reason to celebrate as Intel reveals the full details of the performance boost users can expect with the rollout of the new graphics driver.

The MSI Claw is one of the few handhelds to use a completely Intel-based platform instead of the AMD Ryzen-based APU utilised in most other handhelds, such as the Steam Deck, ASUS ROG Ally, and Lenovo Legion Go. Some users and reviewers were disappointed by the device’s somewhat lackluster performance at launch, but it has gradually improved, and the rollout of a new graphics driver offers even more.

MSI Claw enjoys more FPS and is much more stable

Intel has rolled out a power management update that improves the performance for Intel Core Ultra 200V systems, also known as the ‘Lunar Lake' platform, which use built-in Intel Arc 140V and 130V GPUs.

Testing was conducted by Intel using the MSI Claw AI+ using the Manual 17W profile. This showed improvement in average FPS as well as a 1% low FPS. For instance, in DOTA 2, the framerate before the update averaged at 81 FPS; after the update, this went up to 94 FPS. In Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered, the average FPS went from 79 to 89.

Overall, the update provides 10% more FPS on average, and up to 25% improvement for 1% low FPS (also known as the 99th percentile). Intel claims that frame pacing has been improved with this update to provide a smoother gaming experience in addition to the increased performance. With much better 1% lows, this means reduced frame drops and noticeable stuttering.

The update is available now for the MSI Claw 8 AI+ and MSI Claw 7 AI+. Users of those devices who wish to upgrade will need to download and install Intel graphics driver 32.0.101.6734 (or newer). Further information, including download links, can be found on the Intel website. Intel also plans to roll this update out to other Lunar Lake-based systems soon.
