Last week, we saw the launch of Intel’s brand-new Battlemage graphics cards (known as the B-Series). Alongside the launch of two new GPUs, the Arc B580 and Arc B570, we also saw the introduction of XeSS 2 which includes Team Blue’s very own implementation of frame generation, something we’ve been waiting for in response to Nvidia and AMD.
During the Intel Arc Battlemage GPU reveal, XeSS Super Resolution, XeSS Frame Generation, and Xe Low Latency were shown off as part of the XeSS 2 package. One of the games featured prominently in the presentation was F1 24, and it turns out that the Formula 1 racing game is going to be one of the first to support it – once Intel actually releases the XeSS 2 drivers.
F1 24 v1.16 patch notes reveal support for XeSS 2
As seen in these patch notes on Steam, F1 24’s final update of the year is v1.16 and lines up with some Season 4 events. Along with the new content comes “a number of graphics updates” with the support for XeSS 2 being a large part of that. Here are a few key notes to consider with the v1.16 update:
- Added support for XeSS 2, which will be enabled on supporting hardware with an upcoming driver update from Intel (PC Only)
- Fixed an issue which in some instances caused graphical issues for people with certain Anti-Aliasing options and Dynamic Resolution Enabled (PC Only)
- Following the v1.16 update, options relating to Anti-Aliasing, DLSS, FSR, and/or Dynamic Resolution may have been reset. Be sure to check the in-game Graphics settings to ensure that these options are to your liking
According to the patch notes, F1 24 will support XeSS Frame Generation (XeSS-FG) and Xe Low Latency (XeLL). The game already supports XeSS Super Resolution (XeSS-SR) which was included in the first generation of Intel’s upscaling tech. Intel actually showed off the game in action with upscaling, frame gen, and low latency tech here, with up to 3x the framerate and a 50% reduction in latency.
What other games will support XeSS 2?
There doesn’t seem to be a definitive list of all the games that will support XeSS 2, though Intel revealed at least ten (including current and upcoming) titles in the B-Series announcement video. These are as follows:
- Assassin’s Creed Shadows
- Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions
- Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii
- Dying Light 2 Stay Human
- F1 24
- Ascendant
- Marvel Rivals
- Killing Floor III
- Citadels
The first Battlemage GPU to be released will be the Arc B580 – it will be available to buy from December 13th with a starting price of $249. Even Intel says that it “wins in value” and it looks to be a fantastic contender for both 1080p and 1440p gaming right now. It comes fitted with 12GB of VRAM, and from what we know so far, it compares best to AMD’s RX 6700 XT.
