Apple’s next lineup of iPhones, the iPhone 16 range, is all set to release in about a month. As the launch draws near, more and more speculation has surfaced about the phones, which range from AI features to physical buttons on the phone. As per several reports, the upcoming iPhones will sport new buttons, and the shape of the existing buttons is also likely to change.
This is an almost ironic contrast to what we’ve seen Apple doing in generations gone by, as they were slowly taking away physical buttons – just to bring them back and call it a feature. Either way, iPhone 16 models will be getting new ‘Capture’ and ‘Action’ buttons.
Capture and Action buttons to be added to iPhone 16 models
To start with, the iPhone 16 models are said to feature an Action Button, which is something that we have seen on the iPhone 15 Pro models.
The highlight here is the Capture Button, which might be added to all four models, or, as Apple expert Mark Gurman suggested, it might be available only on the ‘pro’ models. Much like the name suggests, this button will be used to record videos. It will also serve multiple other purposes like taking a photo, autofocus, and more.
To be more specific, the button could mimic a button on a DSLR camera, which might enhance user experience. For instance, to take a photo, press the Capture button lightly. Meanwhile, pressing the button hard will start the video recording. The button may feature other gestures that will activate other functionalities like auto-focus and zoom-in. It is not confirmed yet whether these buttons will be customizable or not.
Further, the volume button on iPhone 16 models will no be longer be mechanical. Instead, the volume button will feature Haptic feedback. Apart from this, the iPhone 16 lineup is said to have bigger screens and thinner bezels, thanks to new technology. In fact, the iPhone 16 Pro could sport a 6.3-inch screen, while the Pro Max iteration is likely to have a 6.9-inch display.
iPhone 16 might launch with Apple Intelligence features
Alongside these major upgrades, the iPhone 16 range is said to launch with AI features enabled with iOS 18. In an earlier article, we talked about how Apple still had enough time to test iOS 18 and release it just in time for iPhone 16 launch.
And sure enough, in a few days, the company rolled out the first developer beta for iOS 18.1, which gave us the first glimpse into Apple’s AI features. In fact, Apple mentioned a few weeks ago that it has invested heavily in Apple Intelligence to ensure a timely release.
