What was once a company largely focused on PC gaming enthusiasts, Nvidia has grown into something much bigger, and there doesn’t seem to be any sign of stopping. There are many factors in the company’s success, and Tae Kim, the writer of The Nvidia Way, has been able to provide plenty of insight into the inner workings of ‘Team Green.’

In a recent interview with We Study Billionaires, Kim talks more about Nvidia and its long-time CEO, Jensen Huang, describing how the “culture of winning” has spread across the company, starting with the leather jacket-adorned man at the top. Two words are repeatedly used to describe Huang – “blunt and direct.”

Nvidia has developed a culture of “telling you the unpleasant truths”

As part of his research, Kim has been in close contact with Nvidia, its employees, and Huang to develop the #1 best-selling book (according to Amazon), and he says the company’s culture is a big reason why it is so successful. In his conversations with Huang, Kim describes him as “very serious” and “very blunt”. This may spark an emotional reaction at first, but Kim says you soon “realize it’s a good thing” as it saves time and makes it clear where the CEO stands. He claims this is “the same thing employees have said to me all the time” – and the culture has spread.

“He’s [Jensen Huang] very blunt and direct, which I think a lot of Nvidia employees grew to appreciate because when you go to a different company, large bureaucratic companies, people play a lot of a games, there’s a lot of internal politics, people don’t tell people the intellectual blunt truth about things, so you’re always dancing around people’s feelings. [At] Nvidia, that doesn’t happen. It’s a culture of telling you the unpleasant truths, being blunt and direct.”

Huang has been at the helm of Nvidia since co-founding it in 1993, and it’s clear that his leadership remains strong to this day, producing plenty of net worth gains to enjoy. Late on in the interview, Kim outlines three key things which he concludes define ‘The Nvidia Way’ and these are as follows:

  • Extreme work ethic – no shortcuts
  • Talent cultivation & retention
  • Extreme velocity of “how things get done”

Nvidia recently launched four new graphics cards for the RTX 50 series, the most recent being the RTX 5070. While the 50 series has been experiencing its fair share of problems (limited stock levels being one of them), Nvidia continues to push forward in its AI-focused side of the business, with Huang recently praising DeepSeek for a “fantastic” and “world-class” open-source reasoning model.
