Warhorse Studios, the developers behind the massive hit RPG Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, announced last week that official modding tools will be coming to the game soon. However, even before this, the modding community has been contributing fun and quality-of-life mods from day one, such as an optimization mod that lets you run the game on a 4GB GPU, or a limited HUD mod that unlocks an extra-immersive experience.
So while there might be some time before modders get their hands on official modding tools, the modding community hasn’t slowed down. Another mod that has caught our attention allows gamers to enjoy medieval Bohemia with even better performance. We're talking about the FPS Boost mod from creator ChemBoy1, which, as you might have guessed, offers a significant FPS boost and up to 35% better performance depending on your hardware.

RTX 3060 owner reportedly gets a 20 FPS boost with this mod
The way this mod works is by enabling Async Compute for rendering, which allows the GPU to handle multiple tasks at once instead of waiting for one task to finish before starting the next. Normally, rendering tasks like processing shadows or lighting happen sequentially, but with Async Compute, some tasks can run concurrently, reducing the overall time spent per frame and improving the frame rate.
On high-end hardware, Async Compute can have a bigger impact because the GPU has more processing power to handle these simultaneous tasks. On lower-end hardware, the benefits might not be as noticeable. The best part is that the mod does all this without conflicting with other mods or requiring command-line arguments, making it beginner-friendly.
According to the mod’s creator, their RTX 3080 Ti got a 3.5% performance uplift. This isn’t a massive amount, but it’s free performance after all. Plus, all that talk of high-end GPUs benefitting the most isn’t strictly the case in every scenario. One user says their RTX 3060 (paired with an unnamed Ryzen 7 CPU) saw a noticeable boost from 70 to 90 FPS.
Another user with an RTX 3060 Ti saw a similar gain, going from 112 FPS with the mod disabled to 128 FPS with it enabled. Even laptop users are seeing improvements, an RTX 3060 Laptop GPU owner commented that before the mod, they used to play at 50-60 FPS, but now they're getting 80 FPS. Great gains all around.
There are some caveats
The comment section is filled with gamers putting out their FPS gains, and the majority of users are seeing some pretty solid results. However, there are some things that the creators specifically mention to keep an eye out for. Like we said above, on older, slower hardware, your performance may get worse, and even with higher-end hardware, setting Global Illumination to Ultra or Experimental is when you start seeing noticeable results.
Nonetheless, one user with an RX 580 4GB did seem to experience some uplift, so it's worth giving it a shot as you could get smoother performance for free.
