A new sales report from Mindfactory has showcased a slow start for AMD’s 9000-series CPUs, with demand for “new Gen” CPUs seemingly at its lowest in years.
AMD’s new 9000 Series CPU lineup officially launched this month, split into two separate launch events after an earlier setback from their original July 31st release. AMD’s Ryzen 5 9600X and Ryzen 7 9700X launched on the 8th of August, 2024, while the brand’s higher-end CPUs (Ryzen 9 9900X and Ryzen 9 9950X) hit shelves on the 15th of August, 2024.

Despite anticipation surrounding the new CPUs seemingly high, a new sales report from X account, TechEpiphany, has showcased lackluster interest from DIY PC builders – with the brand’s Zen 5 CPUs in low demand.
According to the sales report from Mindfactory, week 33 (Monday 12th of August – Sunday 18th of August, 2024) showcased the lowest total AMD CPU units sold in some time. AMD sold 2120 units in Week 33 according to TechEpiphany’s report, showcasing a weeks-long decline in PC builder interest.
An earlier report posted by TechEpiphany highlighted similar sales issues for AMD as “barely any Zen 5 CPUs sold” after the launch of its 9600X & 9700X processors. Neither of which have normalized at the time of writing this.
AMD’s flagship CPU struggles to sell in German Market
The most interesting story from the latest MindFactory reports comes from the individual SKU sales sheet – where AMD’s brand new Ryzen 9 9950X only ended up selling 50 units – lower than at least 12 other AMD CPUs spanning the 5000 and 7000 series.
As you can see from the image above, Ryzen’s latest CPU was considered second fiddle to the likes of the 5600X, 7600X, and the ever-popular 7800X3D.
Those are worrying signs for AMD when you factor in just how poorly Intel is being perceived at the moment. You’d think this was the opportune moment for AMD to win over some Intel fans – but that looks like it hasn’t been the case.
Granted, this could all stew down to the fact that physical units were hard to come by for the European market – meaning things could ‘normalize’ come this time next week. But that’s pure speculation, so we’ll just have to wait and see what happens for AMD.
