AMD has announced that they are postponing the launch of their all-new Ryzen 9000 series, now targeting August 8th and August 15th as dates for release. It looked like the latest push in the ongoing battle between Intel and AMD was going to be available to consumers by the end of the month but now we’re going to have to wait a little longer.

That being said it, seems that CPU fans aren’t necessarily reacting as badly as you might suspect, perhaps preferring to wait a little longer in order to get a product that meets high expectations.

In AMD’s statement released yesterday, they said that “initial production units … did not meet our full quality expectations”, insisting that the recall of all the CPUs sent out to their partners is “Out of an abundance of caution”. Here’s to hoping that statement rings true and that whatever has missed the mark can be easily rectified.

Reaction to the Ryzen 9000 series delay

You’d be forgiven for expecting people to be up in arms about this delay to the 9000 series’ release, especially given the PC hardware community’s occasional disdain for bit manufacturers like AMD but it seems that some customers are taking the delay in their stride. One Reddit user took to the platform to calmly assert that “Two weeks wont kill us.” The folks at Gamers Nexus seem to have taken the angle of “Not delaying would be worse”, comparing the launch with botched video game releases that have been rushed out by studios simply to meet deadlines; I’m still looking at you Assassin’s Creed Unity.

That being said, not everyone has reacted so calmly to the pushback with one Reddit user seemingly despairing at the quality of hardware launches in recent times “RDNA4 delayed, RTX 50 delayed, Intel 13th and 14th Gen CPUs unstable, Zen 5 delayed; we are cooked.”

Others have taken slightly more nuanced angles, suggesting that there’s more to this delay than AMD are letting on. One Reddit user wrote “Zen 5 is delayed cause they obviously wait for the Intel “patch”.” referring to the microcode update Intel are putting out in an attempt to address crashing issues on their own CPUs.

How much will the Ryzen 9000 series cost?

People have also used this discussion to voice their frustration at the lack of pricing info we have received regarding the Ryzen 9000 series thus far. “I don’t understand why there is no price announcement yet.” one Reddit user wrote, but do we really still have no idea how much these new CPUs are going to cost?

Well if you do a bit of digging, there have actually been a few Ryzen 9000 series price leaks that could give us a bit more of an idea of the damage these CPUs will do to our wallets when they are eventually released.

The latest Price leek we’ve seen has come from European retailer, Azerty via Wccftech who were able to source screenshots of product listings listing the following prices in Euros:

  • Ryzen 9 9900X – €484.14 | $433.59
  • Ryzen 7 9700X – €385.33 | $344.70
  • Ryzen 5 9600X – €301.37 | $269.91

Bear in mind that these prices will include 21% VAT so when they’re converted into USD they make for exciting reading. It’s important to remember though that as these are leaks they are of course not set in stone and, especially given this recent delay, could well still be subject to change.
