As we near the end of 2024, it’s clear this has been a fantastic year for AMD in the CPU market. From successful launches to strong sales and happy customers, AMD has outshined its main competitor, Intel.
Earlier this year, Intel faced issues with their 13th and 14th-gen CPUs. Later on, they launched the Core Ultra 200S series processors, but these weren’t well recieved by consumers. On the other hand, AMD stole the spotlight with their 9800X3D, a CPU that quickly managed to become a favorite among gamers. The demand for it was so high that it was sold out within minutes on popular retailers, and even today, the processor is still difficult to get.
AMD is leading the CPU sales race
Recently, sales numbers from German retailer Mindfactory showed just how well the 9800X3D is performing. The data, shared by TechEpiphany on X (formerly Twitter), covers sales for Week 52, from December 23 to December 29, and it confirms AMD’s dominance in CPU sales.
During Week 52, AMD sold a total of 4,260 CPUs, while Intel managed to sell only 320 units. Leading the pack was the 9800X3D, which sold over 1,600 units, making it the top-selling processor for the week. Just behind it were the 7600X3D and 5700X3D, which sold 420 and 350 units, respectively. On the other hand, Intel’s best-selling CPU was the Core Ultra 7 265KF, but only 20 units were sold.
Rank | CPU | Units Sold |
1 | Ryzen 7 9800X3D | 1,620 |
2 | Ryzen 5 7600X3D | 470 |
3 | Ryzen 7 5700X3D (Including tray and without fan) | 350 |
4 | Ryzen 7 7800X3D | 230 |
5 | Ryzen 5 5600 (Including tray and without fan) | 170 |
6 | Ryzen 5 5600X | 140 |
7 | Ryzen 5 7600X | 130 |
8 | Ryzen 5 7500F | 110 |
9 | Ryzen 7 9700X | 110 |
10 | Ryzen 7 700X | 100 |
As the table shows, AMD completely dominated the sales chart. All the top 10 spots are taken by AMD CPUs. If the 9800X3D wasn’t facing stock issues, its sales numbers would have been much higher.
