AMD’s Ryzen 9000 series CPUs were released a few months ago, and excluding the 9800X3D, there are currently four processors in the lineup. Ever since the series was launched, fans have been waiting to see more SKUs. And if you’re one of them, you’ll be pleased to know that as per a new leak, AMD is planning to launch a new CPU next month, which will be for budget-conscious builders.

Ryzen 5 9600 will reportedly launch in late January

January 2025 is going to be a big month for AMD fans, as the company is expected to announce and even launch the 9900X3D and 9950X3D CPUs during the month. These two CPUs will offer the latest 3D V Cache technology, which is not only faster than the previous generation, but also offers better thermal performance.

However, as per Hoang Anh Phu on X, a reliable leaker, AMD will also release the Ryzen 5 9600 next month. We also have the upcoming launch of its next-generation GPUs, the RX 8000 series.

At the moment, the entire 9000 series lineup consists of X models. However, if the leak turns out to be true, then fans will get to see the first ever non-X model of the 9000 series. The 9600 will most likely be a cut-down, more affordable version of the 9600X. However, the leaker does mention that the TDP for the 9600 will remain the same as the 9600X at 105W. In our review of the Ryzen 5 9600X, we praised its efficiency and price to performance.

How We Review
Specifications
  • Cores: 6
  • Threads: 12
  • Boost clock speed: 5.4 GHz
  • Base clock speed: 3.9 GHz
  • L3 Cache: 32 MB
  • TDP: 65 W
  • Platform: AMD Socket AM5

This means the processor will have similar power and heat requirements. However, an interesting point to note is that it will come with the Wraith Stealth Cooler, something that was missing with the X model. This will save you from the hassle of getting a separate CPU cooler.

It is, however, important to keep in mind that it is highly unlikely that the Ryzen 9600 is the only CPU that AMD will be releasing. It will be a bit odd for the company to just introduce a non-X model of one of the budget CPUs and leave the rest out. So, the company might release a few more SKUs alongside the 9600 or sometime after its launch.

Currently, there are no leaks about the price of the Ryzen 5 9600, but we’ll update you as soon as we learn more. The 9600X launched with a price tag of $269, so we expect the non-X model to be priced around $230.
