Microsoft seems to have quietly let slip when its next major update for Windows 11, the 24H2 version, will start rolling out. This wasn’t announced in a grand event or press release, but instead, it was mentioned in a technical document about enhanced data protection and Microsoft Copilot.
Windows 11 users have been waiting for the release of version 24H2 for quite some time now, as it is going to be a massive update. It will introduce new features, such as Voice Clarity, Sudo for Windows, new Microsoft Teams, and much more. However, Microsoft has been quiet about its release, leaving many users wondering when they’ll get to enjoy the new update and its features. But according to a recent document, users might get to enjoy it this month.
Windows 11 24H2 update might arrive soon according
As spotted by XDA Developers, the reveal came from a document titled “Enhanced data protection with Windows and Microsoft Copilot,” which discusses upcoming changes related to Microsoft 365 and Windows 11. According to this document, Microsoft plans to release the new Microsoft Copilot experience and the next Windows 11 feature update, which is version 24H2, simultaneously.
The shift to the Microsoft 365 app as the entry point for Microsoft Copilot will align with the annual Windows 11 feature update release. Changes will be rolled out to managed PCs starting with the optional non-security preview release on September 24, 2024, and following with the monthly security update release on October 8 for all supported versions of Windows 11.

And in case you missed it, the 42H2 version comes with an optimization patch for Ryzen CPUs which aids the performance on AMD’s chips, particularly for gaming – something the new 9000 series needed to give it an edge.
Has Microsoft delayed it?
However, a few hours after the blog post went live, Microsoft changed the statement to “The shift to the Microsoft 365 app as the entry point for Microsoft Copilot is coming soon,” and removed everything related to the annual Windows 11 feature update. This can mean two things. Microsoft either wants to make a proper announcement or has decided to delay the update as it might still require some work. In any case, all we can do for now is wait a few days and see what the company has in mind for us.
