Capcom is committed to making sure Monster Hunter Wilds runs as well as possible on PC. The next few planned updates for the game have been laid out in a roadmap, starting with Version 1.021.00.00, released on August 13. In an open letter, it has been revealed that CPU load reduction is being targeted for “this winter”. GPU load reduction will also be addressed.

Monster Hunter Wilds game director Yuya Tokuda recently released a lengthy open letter, dated August 2025, to discuss upcoming changes to the latest MH title. This includes balance changes, new monsters, new rewards, and, most importantly to us, optimization for PC. The director notes that “The entire development team is carefully reviewing your feedback,” and it’s painfully obvious that performance is one of the most outstanding issues right now.

CPU and GPU load reduction will be addressed, starting this winter

We are aware that some players may be concerned about the potential strain on their PCs, particularly those using CPUs known to have stability issues (as reported by various manufacturers), due to prolonged high CPU usage during extended play sessions.

On the other hand, as making changes to CPU processing could affect the game’s overall performance, we plan to proceed with caution.

In regards to CPU load reduction, we plan to address this issue in the fourth title update scheduled for this winter. Once the initial implementation is complete, we will proceed with a second stage of further mitigation measures.

We will also address GPU load reduction in a similar manner.

We will continue to work on improving the game’s stability so that more players can enjoy the game on PC with peace of mind. Thank you for your understanding.

It’s fair to point out CPU stability issues (possibly referring to Intel’s 13th & 14th gen) out of the devs’ control, but there is more to it than that. In any case, plans to address both the CPU and GPU load are a welcome announcement, and the promise that they “will continue to work on improving the game’s stability” is good news for any Monster Hunter fan who has been discouraged from playing the latest entry to the franchise due to performance issues.

MH Wilds is a demanding game. Even if you have carefully chosen the best settings for your system, it doesn’t guarantee it will run smoothly. In the open letter, Tokuda also notes improvements made to the game in Title Update 2 on June 30, such as fixed shader compilation-related bugs, reduced anti-cheat processing load “by about 90%,” and improved texture loading.

This open letter comes following a canceled optimization lecture for MH Wilds last month. Fans of the franchise came to learn about the lecture scheduled for July 24 at CEDEC 2025 in Japan. Titling it “Making “Monster Hunter Wilds” run smoothly!” clearly didn’t resonate with fans, and the backlash led Capcom to cancel it over concerns of what it called “customer harassment”.

Monster Hunter Wilds still holds a ‘Mostly Negative’ user review rating on Steam, which is at least better than its previous ‘Overwhelmingly Negative’ rating, but is assumedly far from what Capcom would like. Performance and optimization continue to be the biggest negative talking points among Steam reviews.
