MSI’s new super ultrawide QD-OLED gaming monitor has finally launched this month, announced back in August 2024, and now available to the masses. The new panel follows on from the brand’s 144Hz model that was released earlier in 2024, offering up a more immersive experience for gamers that prioritize refresh rates and response time.

The two 49-inch panels both feature a 5120×1440 resolution and QD-OLED panel technology (Samsung’s proprietary panel tech that merges the best qualities of OLED and Quantum Dot). While the original 491CQP features a 144Hz panel, however, the new 491CQPX offers 240Hz – providing a silkier gaming experience for those with PCs capable of driving 240 frames per second at 5K resolution.

Other features of the panel include; DisplayHDR True Black 400 and VESA ClearMR 13000 certifications, MSI’s OLED Care 2.0 technology, and a 3-year burn-in warranty. It’s unclear whether consumers receive a brand-new monitor or a refurbished model when using said warranty – but we’d like to hope for the former.

As expected, the 491CQPX will feature HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4 connectivity, allowing for multiple device options. Additionally, and like many other QD-OLED panels out today, the 491CQPX should deliver 98% AdobeRGB, 146% sRGB, and 99% DCI-P3 color gamut coverage. Contrast ratio should sit at 1,500,000:1, with a screen curve of 1800R.

Will the MSI 491CQPX be worth it?

That’s hard to say, as at the time of writing, we can’t find any listing of the monitor. However, according to sources, some sites are reporting that the price could be in the region of $1,099 – meaning it will not be the cheapest 49-inch 240Hz monitor available. Still, at that price, you’d have to say it displays pretty good value or money – especially when you pit it against market leaders such as the Samsung Odyssey G9.
