MSI has officially unveiled the Claw 8 EX AI+ at Computex 2026, and it is shaping up to be one of the most powerful gaming handhelds announced to date. The device is also making history as the world’s first handheld powered by Intel’s new Arc G3 Extreme processor, which is designed specifically for portable gaming systems.

The handheld aims to deliver desktop-like gaming performance in a portable form factor while also improving battery life, ergonomics, and overall user experience. Now that it has been unveiled, let’s talk release date, specs, design, and price.

MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ release date

MSI has confirmed that the Claw 8 EX AI+ will launch on June 23, 2026, so there are only a few weeks left before you can get your hands on the next-gen device. The launch comes at a time when the handheld gaming market is becoming more expensive than ever, with companies forced to increase the prices of their existing products and delay future projects due to the ongoing memory crisis. Notably, Valve has recently tacked on hundreds of dollars to its popular Steam Deck line-up.

MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ specs

At the heart of the Claw 8 EX AI+ is Intel’s Arc G3 Extreme processor paired with Intel Arc B390 graphics. The handheld supports technologies such as XeSS 3 and Multi-Frame Generation, which are designed to improve frame rates and visual quality in demanding games.

It features an 8-inch FHD+ touchscreen with a resolution of 1920 x 1200, a variable refresh rate ranging from 48Hz to 120Hz, and up to 500 nits of brightness, so it should be usable outdoors and in well-lit environments. Aside from that, it comes with 32GB of LPDDR5X RAM paired with 1TB of storage.

The handheld also comes equipped with Hall-effect analog sticks and triggers, which help prevent stick drift and provide more precise controls. MSI has upgraded the D-pad and face buttons as well, making the device feel more like a premium gaming controller. At 785 grams, it’s 10 grams lighter than the Claw 8 AI+, but heavier than the Xbox Ally and Xbox Ally X.

MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ design and gaming performance

MSI has redesigned the chassis to improve comfort during long gaming sessions. The Claw 8 EX AI+ features larger ergonomic grips and a slightly lighter design compared to previous Claw models. According to hands-on impressions from The Shortcut, the handheld feels significantly more comfortable to hold and offers better button placement. The outlet also noted that the device feels more like a dedicated gaming controller with a screen attached rather than a small PC with controls added on.

Cooling has also received major upgrades, as MSI’s new Cooler Boost HyperFlow system uses dual fans and heat pipes to handle the increased power of the Arc G3 Extreme chip. This should help maintain stable performance during demanding AAA games without excessive heat buildup.

MSI is also positioning the Claw 8 EX AI+ as a premium handheld capable of running modern AAA titles at impressive settings. According to testing shared by The Shortcut, the handheld was able to run Hogwarts Legacy at around 60 FPS at 1200p resolution and medium settings with XeSS enabled. Battlefield 6 was also reportedly playable at 60 FPS with high settings and XeSS performance mode.

MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ price

MSI didn’t officially reveal the price during Computex, but early reports suggest it will cost around $1,500. Just a day later, the device was spotted on Best Buy, a popular retailer in the United States. The 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD model, which is the highest configuration available, has been priced at $1,699.99.

Based on this, the Claw 8 EX AI+ is firmly in the premium handheld category. While the price may seem high, the device offers cutting-edge hardware, a large battery, upgraded controls, advanced cooling, and one of the most powerful handheld gaming chips currently available.

Additionally, the tech industry continues to deal with a major memory crisis, which has caused the prices of several key components to skyrocket. There is a possibility that MSI could introduce lower-cost configurations with different storage or memory options, though nothing has been confirmed so far, and Best Buy currently only has one listing available.
