RTX 40 series GPU owners get a boost with DLSS 4 Frame Gen, new benchmarks show how it compares to DLSS 3

Table of Contents
The latest DLSS 4 Frame Generation benchmarks have been spotted online, as uploaded by some kind souls, and they’re looking pretty good. We can’t of course verify the veracity of these benchmarks at this present time, but they seem pretty legitimate to our eyes, and it’s nice to see some free performance for those who might not be making the upgrade to the latest Nvidia GPUs.
Although only those who buy the latest Nvidia 50-series GPUs will get to enjoy the benefit of DLSS 4 Multi-Frame generation, owners of 40-series cards should still rejoice as they’re going to enjoy a substantial uplift completely free thanks to the latest DLSS 4 (single) Frame Generation, compared to the DLSS 3 Frame Generation they’ve enjoyed up until now.

DLSS 4 Frame Generation benchmarks on a RTX 4070 Ti system
Reddit user SebaRTX kindly put together the following comparative benchmarks in the r/nvidia subreddit using their RTX 4070 Ti-powered PC (though they didn’t state what other hardware their rig was running on). We’ve got the results for two games: Horizon Forbidden West and Forza Horizon 5. All the tests were conducted at 4K resolution. The top two results for each game show performance with the latest DLSS 4 Frame Generation enabled, the difference between them being the ‘Streamline’ version. The bottom result for each game shows the average FPS performance for the DLSS 3 version of Frame Generation.
For those who aren’t aware, the Streamline files rest within the game folders for the titles that support DLSS, and facilitate the integration of the technology with that particular game. The later streamline versions improve the DLSS performance, and this can be seen in the results. As Seba RTX states, ‘Streamline libraries can be downloaded from the GitHub repository published by NVIDIA’ – we recommend having a bit of a read before you try and do this yourself for the first time.
To summarise the performance results, the older streamline version of DLSS 4 performance performed 17-24% better than DLSS 3 FG did, and the latest streamline variant performed 24-25.5% better.
Horizon Forbidden West – RTX 4070 Ti DLSS 4 Frame Generation performance
With this game we can see 17% average FPS uplift using the older streamline version, and 25.5% uplift with the newer version when compared to DLSS 3 Frame Generation.
- New DLSS 4 Frame Generation (v.310.1.0), new Streamline (v.2.7.2): 143.0 FPS
- New DLSS 4 Frame Generation (v.310.1.0), original Streamline (v.2.2.1): 133.2 FPS
- Original ‘DLSS 3’ Frame Generation (v.3.5.10), original Streamline (v.2.2.1): 113.9 FPS
Forza Horizon 5 – RTX 4070 Ti DLSS 4 Frame Generation performance
With this game we can see 12% average FPS uplift using the older streamline version, and 24% uplift with the newer version when compared to DLSS 3 Frame Generation.
- New DLSS 4 Frame Generation (v.310.1.0), new Streamline (v.2.7.2): 147.5 FPS
- New DLSS 4 Frame Generation (v.310.1.0), original Streamline (v.2.0.1): 133.1 FPS
- Original ‘DLSS 3’ Frame Generation (v.3.1.11), original Streamline (v.2.0.1): 118.7 FPS
DLSS 4 Frame Generation benchmarks on an RTX 4090 PC
The above graphs were produced by Sebastian Castellanos (@Sebasti66855537) and posted on Twitter/X. Inspired by the post on the r/NVIDIA subreddit, he decided to produce some of his own benchmarks using his own system which is based around an RTX 4090 with Intel i7-14700K processor and 32GB of DDR5 RAM. Senior Castellanos tested four different titles, similarly using DLSS 3 Frame Generation, the results of which we’ve summarised below once again to show the percentage differences.
In summary, the RTX 4090 system performed between 17-28% better in average FPS performance with the latest DLSS 4 Frame Generation enabled, and 6%-22% better with the previous streamline version, when compared to DLSS FG.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle – RTX 4090 DLSS 4 Frame Generation performance
With this game we can see 22% average FPS uplift using the older streamline version, and 28% uplift with the newer version when compared to DLSS 3 Frame Generation.
Black Myth: Wukong – RTX 4090 DLSS 4 Frame Generation performance
With this game we can see 6% average FPS uplift using the older streamline version, and 17% uplift with the newer version when compared to DLSS 3 Frame Generation.
Horizon Forbidden West – RTX 4090 DLSS 4 Frame Generation performance
With this game we can see 12% average FPS uplift using the older streamline version, and 18% uplift with the newer version when compared to DLSS 3 Frame Generation.
Ghost of Tsushima – RTX 4090 DLSS 4 Frame Generation performance
With this game we can see 11% average FPS uplift using the older streamline version, and 17.6% uplift with the newer version when compared to DLSS 3 Frame Generation.
