New Steam Client beta update brings improvements to achievements, fixes a visual issue, and more
Table of Contents
Valve regularly releases Steam Client updates to improve user experience, introduce new features, and fix known issues. Most of these changes are first introduced through beta updates, allowing users to test them before they become available to everyone. And now, the company has released yet another beta update, bringing several improvements to achievements, a fix for a visual issue, and a small adjustment to the Steam Controller firmware.
The latest update is available through the Steam Client Preview/Beta channel. While it doesn’t introduce any major new features, it focuses on improving some existing functions that players use regularly. If you want to opt in, you can do so by navigating to your Steam settings and selecting Client Beta Participation under the Interface tab, where you’ll find the Steam Beta Update option.
What does the update offer?
General
- Fixed various cases where the Steam windows could briefly flash black.
Steam Achievement Sets
- Completed achievement sets are now shown in the library when sorting by achievement completion.
- Fixed achievement totals not counting some unlocked achievements.
- Fixed rarity threshold on achievement page.
- Achievements button in the play bar now opens the achievements panel.
Steam Controller Firmware
- Reduced thumbstick touch sensitivity to reduce likelihood of early detection of touch.
One of the main areas Valve has worked on is Steam Achievement Sets. With the new update, completed achievement sets will now appear in the Steam library when users sort their games by achievement completion. This should make it easier for players to find games where they have already unlocked every achievement, especially if they have a large library.

Valve has also addressed an issue where the total achievement count wasn’t including certain achievements that players had already unlocked. This could result in incorrect numbers being displayed, even when users had completed the required tasks. Another fix involves the rarity threshold displayed on achievement pages. Valve hasn’t provided further details about the issue, but the change should help ensure that achievement rarity information is displayed correctly.
On top of that, the update makes a small change to how users access their achievements. Previously, clicking the Achievements button in the play bar didn’t open the achievements panel as expected. With the latest beta, the button now takes users directly to the panel, making it easier to check their progress without having to navigate through other sections.
Aside from achievements, Valve has fixed a visual issue that could cause Steam windows to briefly flash. Finally, the update includes a small adjustment to the Steam Controller firmware. Valve has reduced the touch sensitivity of the thumbsticks to lower the chances of touch being detected too early.
That said, those interested in trying these changes early can opt into the Steam Client Beta through Steam’s settings. However, it’s important to remember that beta updates are still being tested, so users may encounter bugs or other issues that haven’t been fixed yet.
