Newegg often rolls out deals worth talking about, but one of its most recent offers seemed to catch a little too much attention for its liking. The deal was focused on Nintendo eShop gift cards, and it was so good that it could actually help people buy a Nintendo Switch 2 for 20% less than full price. Not bad for a console that seldom gets a discount outside of bundles.

The offer allowed customers to get $500 worth of Nintendo eShop credit for just $402.50. This deal was highlighted by Wario64 on X, and it quickly started gaining traction. The best part about eShop credit is that it isn’t limited to just digital games – it can also be used on the My Nintendo Store to buy hardware, consoles, physical games, and other products.

Nintendo eShop Gift Card deal at Newegg

With hardware available to purchase, things get interesting. Since the credit could be used on hardware, users figured out that they could stack multiple gift cards bought at a discount and use them to purchase the Nintendo Switch 2. The console normally costs $449.99, but by using discounted gift cards, you could score the Switch 2 for only $362.25, which is just shy of 20% cheaper.

However, deals like this don’t stay unchanged for long. As more people started buying gift cards in bulk, Newegg stepped in and adjusted the offer. The discount itself stayed the same, but the company reduced the purchase limit. Instead of being able to buy up to 10 gift cards per customer, the limit was lowered to just two.

While this made it much harder to stack enough credit to get the same level of savings on bigger purchases like a console. You could still get two $50 gift card codes for $80, which was well worth it – while it lasted. Unfortunately, the offer has now disappeared completely from the Newegg store.

The moral of the story is that Newegg frequently runs similar promotions on gift cards and other products. If you’re planning to buy something like a console or accessories, it’s always a good idea to keep an eye on their deals on items such as gift cards. With the right timing, you might be able to save a decent amount on your next purchase.
