Newegg ups prices of RTX 50 series GPUs, cites “tariffs” as the reason why

Over the past couple of days, RTX 50 series GPUs have seen significant price hikes, whether from scalpers or board partners like ASUS and MSI, who are charging as much as $3,409 and $2,799 for their RTX 5090 GPUs, respectively. The situation isn’t much better at online retailers like Newegg, as they have also increased the prices of RTX 5080 GPUs by more than $100.
This comes after Newegg recently posted an update on X about an RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 restock, urging users to act fast due to limited supply. In response, one user asked Newegg, “Did the pricing go up on 5080s?” to which the retailer replied, “Yeah, tariffs.” While this isn’t something Newegg has control over, it just goes to show that those hoping to get an RTX 50 series GPU at MSRP aren’t going to have much luck finding one.
All RTX 50 series are out of stock on Newegg now
All RTX 50 series GPUs are currently out of stock on Newegg, so we can’t provide exact pricing details for each SKU. However, it appears that the retailer has brought prices back to MSRP now that they are no longer available. We say this because a Reddit user recently posted about Newegg’s price increase on three different RTX 5080 GPUs before they sold out:
- ZOTAC Gaming SOLID GeForce RTX 5080: $1,150 → $1,270
- GIGABYTE Gaming GeForce RTX 5080: $1,200 → $1,320
- GIGABYTE WINDFORCE GeForce RTX 5080: $1,000 → $1,100
Now, all three GPUs are listed at their original MSRP, or even below it in Zotac’s case, suggesting that Newegg might be adjusting prices to attract more buyers. That said, we do know from Newegg’s official X post that the pricing was indeed increased, but it’s strange to see the same model not currently listed at the alleged higher price.
Prices are unlikely to drop any time soon
Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like prices for the RTX 50 series GPUs will return to normal anytime soon. So far, we’ve heard multiple reasons for the price hikes, with some saying that it costs more to produce custom GPUs as Nvidia’s “MSRP is equivalent to charity” and others dealing with tariffs. On top of that, we also wouldn’t take these prices as final, as we’ve seen board partners like ASUS and MSI increase prices despite selling them for hundreds more than the MSRP.

That said, as long as NVIDIA’s limited stock availability continues to be a problem, it will be very difficult to find an RTX 50 series GPU at MSRP, with some retailers even suggesting wait times of 20 weeks or more for things to stabilize. At this point, gamers are either calling out those who keep buying GPUs at these inflated prices or waiting for a competitor to offer a more compelling alternative that delivers both performance and competitive pricing to challenge NVIDIA’s RTX 50 series.
