Following the announcement and registration crunch for Valve’s handheld PC, Steam Deck, Nintendo has gone on record to state that they currently have no plans to release any hardware (like the Switch Pro) following the release of the Nintendo Switch OLED Model on 8th October worldwide.
The big N are becoming big fans of announcing games and statements via Twitter, with the announcement of ‘Pikmin 3: Deluxe’ going live in August last year. Nintendo went on record yesterday stating the following regarding the rumored Switch Pro as part of a two-part tweet:
‘We also want to clarify that we just announced that Nintendo Switch(OLED Model) will launch in October, 2021, and have no plans for launching any other model at this time.’
The Valve train has been picking up steam recently, with people wondering if there’s a comparison to be made between the Nintendo switch OLED Model and Steam Deck. Obviously, there’s a massive difference with one being literally a handheld PC and the other being a traditional games console in handheld form.
The question of storage is also becoming a hot topic, with PC games such as Red Dead Redemption 2 requiring a hefty 150GB worth of space just to download. SD Card storage is supported, but it doesn’t perform anywhere near NVMe drives that are included in the top two Steam Deck models.
Alternatively, there are other PC handhelds on the market right now that are arguably a better proposition than Steam Deck. Ultimately this is subjective, with some gamers opting to wait until Q2/Q3 2022 for the real McCoy.
