Nintendo’s latest Direct video presentation is here, giving fans a full rundown on the new Switch 2’s capabilities. There were plenty of rumors in the build-up to the Switch 2 release date, one of them being that the new Joy-Con controllers have some kind of mouse functionality. Well, this has now been officially confirmed by Nintendo.
There’s a lot to look forward to with Switch 2, including digital game sharing and the newly announced Game Chat feature, which brings a Discord-like experience natively to the console. However, let’s focus on some Joy-Con upgrades, including the new mouse functionality.

Nintendo refers to the new Joy-Cons as ‘Joy-Con 2’ in its presentation and details a few upgrades the Switch 2 brings to the controllers. First of all, the Switch 2 is bigger than its predecessor, and this means bigger Joy-Cons to go along with it. Let’s summarize a few of the key features:

The Nintendo Switch 2 direct opened with the announcement of Mario Kart World, a much more open-world experience that offers the biggest (and assumedly most hectic) Mario Kart races to date. While we don’t expect this to be one of the titles you’ll be looking to play on a mouse, we’re excited to see what titles are announced with mouse support moving forward.
The Switch 2 release date has been announced for June 5th, 2025, so you have a couple of months to wait before you can get your hands on one.
