People involved with creating mods for PC games were shocked by the announcement that the mod database and community, Nexus Mods, has passed into new ownership. The new owners of the site have now released an FAQ that addresses the concerns of many in the user base and clarifies plans for the site going forward.

The announcement by Dark0ne that he would be stepping down from his position as chief site-runner for Nexus Mods came as a surprise to many. Despite his blog post statement saying there were no plans for immediate changes to the site, some users were concerned about the long-term future of the site.

In a pinned comment, the new site owners have created an FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) which addresses several concerns expressed by the user base. Among the most immediate concerns was the possibility that paid mods and other forms of aggressive monetization would be introduced.

Site administrator Foledinho addressed these concerns: ”Monetization is hard, and Nexus Mods is a complex platform. What matters most is continuing to support mod authors, delight users, and keep the lights on. We’re not changing the core model. No aggressive monetization. No paid mods.”

Lifetime premium is here to stay

Foledinho also reassured users that Free accounts were not going away, and lifetime premium subscriptions were safe. He also clarified that Robin, aka Dark0ne, would be remaining on staff to guide the direction of the platform.

The FAQ post ended with a short statement from Foledinho, along with the other new administrators, Nikolai and Victor: “For now, we’re focused on listening, learning, and making modding even easier, and yes, you’ll see us around in the community being active. Trust takes time. We’re committed to putting control back in the hands of creators, players, and communities. We’ll get back to building now.”

This statement won’t calm everyone’s nerves in the community, but at least the new owners are saying the right things.
