Nexus Mods founder announces new ownership for modding site, promises it will remain “community-first”

For a great many years, Nexus Mods has been the go-to place to find the latest and greatest in PC gaming mods. From simple cosmetic changes to full UI overhauls and fan-made new content patches, it can all be found there. Running such a vast resource is no easy task, however, and site founder Dark0ne has now decided that it is time to step back and take a break.
In a blog post, Dark0ne went into detail about the reasons why he has decided to step back and let others take the reigns of the site: “This site has been my entire adult life. Every single day, for over two decades, I've been on call,” he explains, “whether it was fixing issues, reading feedback, pushing updates, or getting pulled into the latest bit of community drama. It's been rewarding, sometimes chaotic, often exhausting, and always personal.”

Dark0ne says he never set out to build a business, but instead aimed to create a community where modding work could be shared and archived. However, years of constant work have taken their toll, and he has now secured a deal that will pass the running of the site into new hands and allow him to take a break. The project originally started back in 2001, in anticipation of the upcoming The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. Nearly 24 years later, Oblivion Remastered mods are flooding the site.
Nexus Mods will remain community-focused
For those worried about potential changes, Dark0ne was keen to reassure people, saying the new owners were: “About long-term stability, not changing the values or direction of the platform. Nexus Mods is community-first and mod-author focused, that's not up for negotiation.”
“So yes, the ownership of Nexus Mods has changed hands, but I want to be clear, this isn't some corporate “exit” or a backroom deal. This is me doing something I probably should've done years ago: taking care of myself. Reclaiming some headspace. And finally letting go of the idea that I have to do everything and be responsible for everything myself.”

The blog post goes on to say that two names will become more prominent, and Nexus Mods users will be seeing more of ‘Foledinho' and ‘Rapsak', aka Victor and Marinus, who will be taking over some of Dark0ne's role going forward.
Dark0ne confirmed he will still be involved in the site, but will be taking a back seat to free up more time to relax and allow the new owners to grow into their new roles.
