For those unfamiliar with ImpUI (Improved UI), this mod is one of the most popular in the Baldur’s Gate 3 modding community. It enhances the game’s user interface and serves as a foundational dependency for a wide range of other mods, especially those that add new races, classes, or cosmetic options. On Nexus Mods, ImpUI boasts over 1.8 million unique downloads.

However, when BG3’s final major update, Patch 8, went live, the mod’s future was thrown into question, as its original creator, Djmr, announced they would no longer be maintaining it. This left the community in limbo, since, like every major patch, this one introduced changes that broke compatibility with the original version of ImpUI.

Fortunately, along with announcing their indefinite departure from maintaining ImpUI, the creator also welcomed others to “reach out” if they wanted to continue work on ImpUI or other UI mods. That's where ImpUI_P8_Fork comes in, a forked version specifically designed to work with Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 8. The original ImpUI creator mentioned they won't be available for a little while longer and suggested this fork as an alternative.

Right now, the mod is in a beta testing phase, but it offers several useful UI improvements. These include restoring background icons for modded backgrounds in the character creation menu and bringing back the race proficiency selector during re-spec, such as Human Versatility. It also reduces dependencies on core game packages like GustavX and PhotoMode, helping ensure better stability with Patch 8.

This mod is in BETA testing phase.

That said, there are several important instructions to be aware of when using this mod. For example, you should not use it alongside any other version of ImpUI or with UI mods that haven't been updated for Patch 8. There are a few other guidelines as well, so we highly recommend reading the full mod description to avoid any issues.

While the community has stepped in to provide occasional fixes to the original ImpUI, with the most recent version released back in April, we expect this ImpUI Fork to offer the most complete experience with BG3's latest patch. The ImpUI Fork is available for download on Mod.io.
