Two PlayStation games suddenly disappeared from Steam in the UK earlier this week, preventing new players from purchasing them, and raising questions about what Sony was doing with its existing PC releases. Thankfully, the disappearance isn’t intentional, and the affected games are expected to return to Steam after Sony confirmed it was working with Valve to fix the issue.

Steam store pages for Helldivers 2 and Horizon Forbidden West, have suddenly become unavailable the UK. Players who already own the games aren’t locked out, as both titles remained accessible through their Steam libraries. The issue only prevents new customers from visiting the affected store pages and purchasing the games while they’re restricted in the region.

The situation attracted attention because Sony has recently been changing its approach to releasing PlayStation games on PC. However, the company quickly confirmed that this wasn’t a deliberate removal of its existing PC ports. Anyone trying to access the games’ Steam store page will be met with this message: “This item is currently unavailable in your region”.

In a statement provided to VGC, Sony said it was “aware of an issue affecting the availability of select titles on Steam in the UK,” adding, “We are working with Valve to address the issue. We apologize for the inconvenience”. The cause(s) of the temporary disappearance were left unexplained. Other PlayStation titles, including Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Horizon Zero Dawn, did not appear to be affected by the same problem.

The temporary removal ultimately appears to have been a store availability issue rather than any indication that Sony was preparing to pull its existing games from Steam. There was also no risk of existing owners losing access to their purchases during the outage, so there’s no need to worry.
