Last week saw reports suggesting Nvidia may discontinue its RTX 5090 graphics card, but now, Nvidia executive Jeff Fisher claims the flagship GPU is still in production. The idea is that the GB202 GPU chip inside the 5090 would instead be reserved for Nvidia’s server-focused Pro line-up, as the GB202 is also used in the company’s Pro 5000 and Pro 6000 series.

Fisher admits manufacturing capacity is suffering, but maintains that “Nvidia will continue to ship” the RTX 5090, adding the company is “doing everything it can” to keep cards in stock. The price of the RTX 5090 keeps on rising as AI firms reportedly eat up stock for their servers, with a quick search on Amazon US showing costs now reaching well over $8,000 at this point.

It’s “very important” to keep shipping the RTX 5090

Speaking to Chinese-language outlet 4Gamers, Fisher makes it clear Nvidia is still producing RTX 5090 cards, even if its output may not be as high these days. He says it’s “very important” to keep shipping the flagship gaming model. As mentioned before, while it may be targeted at gamers, AI firms are snapping up the 32GB GDDR7 VRAM card for server use, leaving regular consumers priced out.

“The supply chain (capacity) is indeed somewhat constrained, but NVIDIA is doing everything it can to get the product on the market. Although there are other variants of the RTX 5090 (chip), production has not been discontinued, and NVIDIA will continue to ship, which is very important.”

Outside of Amazon, popular US retailer Micro Center has also switched many of its RTX 5090 listings to ‘Not Carried’ – as pointed out by Reddit users last week. There are a few exceptions to this, however, such as a limited anniversary bundle featuring the ASUS ROG Astral Edition 20 model, as well as prebuilt gaming PCs with the flagship card inside.
