Nvidia often releases new Game Ready drivers for its graphics cards. These updates are meant to make games run better, improve performance, and fix any bugs users might be facing. Most of the time, they help make your gaming experience smoother. But right now, there's one big issue that still hasn't been fixed, and users are getting frustrated.

Crashing and black screen issues with Nvidia GPUs

Many people using Nvidia GPUs, including those with RTX 40-series cards and older models, have been complaining about facing a black screen for no reason. This happens both during gaming and general use. Some users have also reported hard OS crashes, which is extremely frustrating, considering it can make you lose all unsaved work or progress in a game.

One user on Reddit explained that the black screen issue started for them after they installed driver version 572. They said the problem kept happening and the only way they could fix it was by rolling back to driver version 566.36. While that helped stop the black screens and crashes, it also created a new problem. Since they are no longer using the latest driver, some games won't work anymore properly. The user added that Cyberpunk 2077 used to crash their entire system when running on version 572, but the issue disappeared after going back to version 566. Even though the rollback fixed things, it's not a long-term solution because new games often require the latest drivers to run properly.

The problem isn’t limited to older models

To make things worse, the problem doesn't seem limited to just the RTX 40-series or older cards. A different user replied to the Reddit thread and said they were having the same issue with their brand-new RTX 5080, which was released just a few weeks ago. They explained that they use two monitors and that their PC randomly goes idle and causes a black screen. When that happens, their only options are to restart the system or unplug and plug the monitor cable back in. This is obviously not something you'd expect with a high-end, new graphics card.

A lot of other users also jumped into the thread, saying they are facing the same black screen and crash issues. Some said they also had to roll back their drivers just to make their PCs usable again. Despite all these reports, Nvidia has not yet responded with a widespread fix for multiple generations. Nvidia has tried to address the black screen a couple of times for the 50 series, but it hasn’t been successful. They are yet to comment on the older generation cards this bug affects. This has left many users frustrated and unsure of what to do.
