Nvidia’s RTX 50 series black screen fix has only made things worse, but there are a few workarounds

Nvidia might have been hoping that the release of its updated GeForce Drivers marked a turning point for the embattled RTX 50 series for graphics cards. Unfortunately, the hits just keep on coming for Team Green, as the touted ‘fix' isn't all it was cracked up to be.
There are signs that consumers are becoming pretty irritated with Nvidia. Though the company insists that the missing ROPs issues only affect a fraction of cards, there is another major problem that has been affecting users – the dreaded Black Screen error.

Last week, Nvidia released GeForce Game Ready Driver version 572.60, along with Patch Notes that addressed three error codes associated with a persistent ‘Black screen' problem. Users of RTX 50 series cards were experiencing a problem where the screen would suddenly go black and refuse to display.
The black screen fix reportedly doesn’t fix much
Despite the promised fix, some users who downloaded and installed the updated Driver are still having Black Screen problems. Worse still, some users who were previously unaffected are now reporting the same symptoms.
As reported by XDA Developers, some RTX 50-series users are now reporting that games with multi-frame generation will crash to a black screen and cause the PC to restart. Some users are reporting issues even with DLSS turned off.
Finding a workaround
According to mpr_reviews on X, they’ve done some additional testing and have managed to fix three main workarounds for the black screen issue so far. These are listed below:
- Disabling G-Sync
- Lowering monitor refresh rate
- Removing the driver for your iGPU
This is not the only persistent bug in Nvidia software. Users have been reporting performance problems when using Nvidia's App Game Filters since 2024. So far, no fix has been forthcoming, and Nvidia's only response has been to disable Game Filters by default.
With the launch of AMD's RX 9070 series coming up, Team Green really needs to get its act together to maintain their position.
