By now it is no secret that things have not been going well for Nvidia. Amidst a sea of supply and manufacturing issues plaguing the new RTX 50 series, some users were reporting software issues as well. Thankfully, it seems that those woes are at least at an end.

Customers who managed to get their hands on an RTX 50 series GPU would, of course, need to update their graphics driver. Unfortunately, this update came with a bug that caused the screen to go black, leaving users scrambling for a solution.

“Various black screen issues” fixed in latest GeForce driver

Thankfully, Nvidia has been working on this issue, and the patch notes for GeForce Game Ready Driver 572.60 contain a note on a fix for “Various black screen issues”.

Fixed Gaming Bugs

  • [SteamVR] Some apps may display stutter on GeForce RTX 50 series [5088118]

Fixed General Bugs

  • [Adobe Substance 3D Sampler] Crashing at launch with R570 branch drivers [5083712]
  • [Adobe Substance 3D Painter] texture corruption in baking results from GPU raytracing [5091781]
  • [VRay 6] Unexpected Low Performance on CUDA Vpath Tests for Blackwell GPUs [4915763]
  • [GeForce RTX 50 series] Various black screen issues [5088957] [5100062] [5089089]
  • Audio issues when GPU is connected via DisplayPort 1.4 w/ DSC at very high refresh rates [5104848]
  • Applications may display slight image corruption on pixelated 2D patterns [5071565]

As shown in the patch notes, this is not the only bug fix being deployed in this patch. Steam VR users who noticed stuttering problems with RTX 50 cards can also look forward to a fix, as can Adobe Substance users.

Perhaps Nvidia is finally moving past its disastrous launch, but it remains to be seen if this patch will fix all of the RTX 50 series software issues. At the very least, people are starting to get their hands on RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 cards for MSRP now that Nvidia has rolled out its first wave of Priority Access invites.
